Cuban-inspired bites and cocktails from The Guava Tree, and an hour of salsa with instructor Roberto Lay, one story above the square. Wednesday, October 21, 6–9 PM. $80, all included.

Two of McKinney’s own, upstairs for one night! The Guava Tree, straight across the street, brings a Cuban-inspired grazing spread and two cocktails per guest, and Roberto Lay of LA Dance and Entertainment, a Latin-dance instructor with thirty years of teaching behind him, walks you through your first salsa steps. No experience needed.

The evening

6:00 – 6:30 PM

  • Arrival Enjoy a cocktail and some delicious Cuban bites, inside or on our beautiful balcony.

6:30 – 7:30 PM

  • Salsa lesson with Roberto Lay a full hour of the basics: the step, the turn, lead and follow. Beginners welcome

7:30 – 9:00 PM

  • Dancing, drinking, grazing put it to music, collect your second cocktail, and go back to the dance floor to practice what you learned.

What your ticket includes

  • A one-hour salsa lesson with professional dance instructor Roberto Lay.
  • Two cocktails, served across the evening.
  • A Cuban-inspired grazing board from The Guava Tree.

The partners

  • The Guava Tree Cuban Cafe & Cantina — Cuban-American cooking from a family recipe book, on the road as a food truck since 2012 and now settled at 104 S. Chestnut St., directly across from our door. Known for their Cuban sandwiches and loaded yucca fries, and a past contender on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race.
  • LA Dance and Entertainment — Roberto Lay — dancer, performer and instructor, originally from Panama City and one of the people who brought bachata to Dallas. Thirty years teaching salsa, mambo, bachata, merengue and cha-cha, and co-founder of the SeduXion dance team. Private, couple and group lessons, wedding and quinceañera choreography. Good to know

  • $80 per person, which covers the lesson, two cocktails and the grazing board. The bar is open for anything beyond that.
  • Wednesday, October 21. Doors at 6 PM, lesson at 6:30, dancing until 9.
  • 103 S. Chestnut St., 2nd floor, at the corner of Chestnut and Louisiana. Elevator access, two adjacent parking lots and two free parking garages nearby.
